Welcome to the Kootenays where you will be glad you came.
The Kootenays is made up of approximately 7.6 million hectares of BC’s South East border, the Kootenay Region spans from historic Grand Forks along the Idaho Montana borders through to the town of Sparwood, affectionately known as BC’s gateway to Alberta, then continues north clear to Golden including the towns of Field and Donald continuing west to the Arrow Lakes. The entire region is drenched in exquisite natural beauty unspoiled and breathtaking are frequent terms used to describe this incredible place.
Parks abound here including three of British Columbia’s seven National Parks whose boundary’s are within this region’s border. The Kootenay National Park stretches from Radium Hot Springs on Hwy 93 along the Vermillion and Kootenay Rivers and on its Southern border is the town of Field located in the famous Yoho National Park only 55 km east of Golden and finally the Glacier National park at only 80 km east of Golden and 72 km west of Revelstoke. British Columbia’s park information boasts over 40 Provincial Parks within this region alone not to mention at least 18 parks maintained by the Regional Districts. So, if you are into adventure hiking, backpacking, exploring, site seeing, photography, fishing, camping, swimming to name a few you are sure to find the perfect place right here in the Kootenays.
If golfing is your passion look no further, with courses to please every level of expertise within or nearby almost every community, you will not be disappointed here. Some areas are home to several greens each enticing you with its own unique flavor.
Winters in the Kootenays can only be described as glorious, not just a pretty place! Most of the larger centers are only a short distance from fabulous first class mountain resorts offering some of the best skiing opportunities in the world as well as snowboarding fun and groomed cross-country ski routes.
Because the Kootenay Region enjoys relatively mild winters, outdoor activities are popular and endless. Much family fun is often only a short distance from home such as ski doing, ice skating, tobogganing and ice fishing. Just getting out enjoying the fresh mountain air followed up with a steaming cup of hot chocolate can be a wonderful experience.
