North along Highway 95/93 just beyond Fairmont Hot Springs on the northern edge of Windermere Lake sits this popular Columbia River Valley community.

Climate

The climate in this area is typically dry with very little accumulated snowfall and almost no rainfall the landscape has taken on a desert like appearance. Spring comes early and summer stays late with cooler January temperatures averaging highs of -5°C/23°F and a low of -15°C/5°F.

Opportunities abound for the outdoor enthusiasts limited only by the imagination. The following are just a few suggestions: Skiing/boarding, snowmobiling, golf, fishing/hunting (go it alone or choose a guided adventure), hiking, a plethora of water sports including sailing, canoeing etc., ATV/mountain biking, camping all within the municipal boundary.

There are several family parks as well as ball parks, beaches, tennis courts, trails, soccer fields and a skateboard park!

  • Invermere Municipal Library - The library offers an extensive selection of books as well as numerous children's programs including story times and reading clubs. Seniors are always welcomed with transportation provided through the community bus service.

Local Attractions

  • Windermere Valley Museum
    The museum showcases an array of artifacts of the First Nations people including a dugout canoe belonging to the Shuswap Band, as well as arrowheads and a buffalo hide. It is also a testament to one of the earliest known settlers David Thompson.
  • Pynelogs Cultural Centre
    Located in the Kinsmen Beach area in a building with history dating back to 1915 when it was used as the community's only hospital then the local seniors home. A major renovation took place before the doors opened again in1990 to become the town's cultural centre and meeting hall. Under the direction of The Columbia Valley Arts Council visitors can see live performances, art exhibits, and attend various scheduled workshops.

Main Community Event

Spring kicks off a seemingly endless calendar of annual events beginning with Wings Over the Rockies, a birding festival (May) , Summer Jumpstart Festival (May), Volleyball Boogie & Bash (late May), Canada Day (July 1 st ) celebrations include a parade, beachside events and fireworks, Visitor Appreciation Day & Toby Creek Boat Race (3rd weekend in July), Lakeside Hang-gliding/Water Landing Competition (August), Loop of the Lake Relay (August), Individual & Team Triathlon, a wakeboard competition, a mountain bike race, a paragliding competition (August), Valley Artisans Market (November). The world's largest outdoor bonspiel takes place in (January) on the Windermere Lake .

Shopping

Stroll along 7 th Avenue where flowering blooms line the main street providing a charming downtown shopping experience. A bronze statue of explorer David Thompson and his wife Charlotte Small grace the entry. The downtown core is home to a variety of businesses including a bakery and deli; banks, furniture and antique stores, grocery and health food, pubs and restaurants to name a few.
